The Library of Congress, Veterans History Project

At the 2003 reunion in Sioux Falls, S.D., St. Augustana College came to interview the shipmates for a special project. This project was in conjunction with The Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Several of the crew gave their audio interview about their time aboard the USS South Dakota.

Please visit the web site and see if your family member was interviewed. The search is done by last name and the site is easy to navigate in. Some are written accounts, while others are audio interviews. Please share with your family members. It's another piece of history left behind by our WWII Vets. If your Dad or Granddad should relocate, please be sure to let us know so that their address can be updated in the roster. We don't want any shipmate to loose out on receiving their newsletter.
If your loved one has passed away, we also want to know about it. It's important to us to have all current information regarding the crew in an effort to keep our records up to date.

If you have not yet viewed our Photo Page of the crewmembers, please take a moment and use the link provided. We would like to gather as many photos as we can of these brave men. If you have a picture of your dad, or grandfather and would like to display it as a tribute to him, please send scanned photo to ussdakota@aol.com If you do not have access to a scanner, send photo to USS South Dakota Newsletter Editor at 465 Glendale Rd. Buffalo Grove, IL 60089. We will scan for you and return promptly to you.
